Jonathon Brooks from Hallettsville High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Brooks joined Texas.
In 2021 as a freshman Brooks saw action in just 3 games for the Longhorns as he ran for only 143 yards on 21 attempts for an elite 6.8 yards per carry, with one TD, with no fumbles. As a receiver he made only one reception for 12 yards.
As a sophomore in 2022 he played 5 games. and rushed for 179 yards on 24 carries for an elite 7.5 ypc, with 4 TDs, with no fumbles. In the passing game he pulled in no receptions for no yards.
SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS
- He’s a quality receiver with soft hands, and Brooks shows a good feel for catching and transitioning upfield in the screen game.
- Brooks has the flexible ankles to turn the corner and get around the perimeter when the opportunity presents itself.
- He’s at his best working in space, showing the quickness and vision of a return specialist. His stop-start ability allows him to create initial separation.
- Possesses quick feet and straight-line speed but doesn’t have the elite burst to be a constant big-play threat. Improving patience as a runner, following pulling guards and makes good decisions on his cut.
- A smooth, loose athlete with very good speed,he is a weapon in space.
- Doesn’t possess elite breakaway speed, but is fast enough to gain yardage in chunks when he finds a seam.

- Brooks isn’t going to overwhelm opposing defensive backs with speed and athleticism.
- Too indecisive and hesitant at the line of scrimmage.
